This car was originally built for Russ Norburn of Durham, NC with an Imp engine. Norburn hired J.W. Denton to spend time at Beach's shop overseeing the construction based on his experience with #101.
Norburn and Pete Feistmann ran 1-2 events (Click here for 10/67 newspaper article) and in 1968 sold the car to Denton. Denton ran 1 race and sold it to Fred Cox. Cox ran it in the 68-69 ARRC runoffs and then sold it to Buzz Cason, who drove it in the 70-71 ARRC runoffs.
Chuck Dorris writes - "my Dad’s old race car....while it belonged to Buzz Cason in 1970. I have quite a story to tell you about the chassis, as well as pictures and news clippings. Did you know that 108 had the first Mazda Wankle engine in the states? 1970, was a tough year for Buzz and James Dorris.... they were blazing fast in practice, but the thing would literally melt, from the heat build up, in the pits. I watched it happen at every race they tried to run the rotary engine. They were running straight exhaust pipes on that engine, and my ears have been ringing ever since. Someone figured out the exhaust was the way to keep those engines cool... but by then my dad was out of patience."
Cason later installed a MG Midget engine and sold it to Mike Goodyear. Goodyear and also Bob Atkinson raced it with Suzuki and Ocelot engines in the Midwest 1975-85. Atkinson took it to the CSPRRC runoffs in 1982 and 83.
Hugh Kleinpeter acquired it in 1989 and in 2001 the car returned to North Carolina with Nick England. In 2006 it went to John Rankin in Seattle to join his other two Mk4B cars. In 2018 after a chassis/body overhaul, it went to Dennis Losher, and then in 2023 to Tony Wilcoxson.
