25 July 1959
"A resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Henry Rex Beamer was
killed when his car slid off the Virginia International Raceway track and
rolled several times during practice. The race was sanctioned by the SCCA
and its Central Carolinas Region."
Beamer was evidently driving Ed Welch's AC-Bristol and went off at the end of the front straight.
The only other fatal accident at VIR 1957-74 was John Henderson, killed in October 1963 in a Lotus 22 Formula Jr., who crashed into a tree near the Coke Bridge after tangling with a Corvette.
